Trial Platform for 5G Evolution Cross-Industry on Large Scale

TARGET-X is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action that transforms advanced fifth-generation mobile networks into practical tools for industry. The project equips large-scale pilot sites with ultra-low-latency connectivity, enabling manufacturers to measure real performance before deploying new automation schemes.

Stritzinger GmbH was selected in the second open call to run the nine-month experiment "GRiSP-io ROS2 Topic Sniffer for Bandwidth Management in Wireless 5G and 6G Networks" at the 5G Industry Campus Europe in Aachen. Our ROS2 Topic Sniffer runs on GRiSP boards managed by our GRiSP-io platform, with orchestration and connectivity secured by Braid, Stritzinger's distributed system for dynamic Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), automated certificate management, and fast mutual‑TLS clustering. By embedding Braid at the core of GRiSP‑io, the project achieves secure, zero‑touch connectivity between edge devices and cloud hubs across heterogeneous networks.

The Milestone 2 report documents this TLS‑secured connection layer between the ROSiE bridges and GRiSP‑io and confirms that all required technical performance indicators were evaluated in the laboratory 5G environment, including comprehensive security checks. KPI data from the trial will be uploaded to the TARGET‑X repository for future digital‑twin analysis.

By delivering this lightweight traffic-management layer, we help the consortium demonstrate how deterministic 5G links can shorten control-loop delays on the factory floor. The findings contribute to standards development and provide machine builders and network operators with a repeatable framework for low-latency robotics as sixth-generation technology approaches.

Project Consortium

Fourteen core partners including Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology as coordinator, telecom vendors, research universities and the operators of the 5G Industry Campus Europe in Aachen and the IDIADA proving ground in Spain operate five industrial 5G and emerging 6G pilot sites. A rolling open-call programme invites up to one hundred SME experiments, such as ours, to validate the platform under real factory conditions.
